Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.

Welcome! We’re glad you are here.

Making the decision to seek help is one of the most difficult and courageous decisions one can make. But the task of finding the right therapist can be daunting, especially when already feeling vulnerable and uncertain. On top of that, there are so many choices out there that it's hard to know how to decide! Research has shown time and time again, that the single most important factor in therapeutic progress is the quality of the relationship between the client and the therapist. With this in mind, finding a "good fit" is crucial.

My name is Joanna Kelly and I opened Willow Bay Therapy with a passion to provide quality and effective mental health treatment in a quiet, safe and welcoming environment.  I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) and also a Registered Play Therapist (RPT.) As a play therapist, I am also frequently playful with both children and adults!  My practice is considered "Adoption-competent,”as I have completed an extensive 15 month training and received my Permanency and Adoption Competency Certificate (PACC.) I am an approved provider on the MN Adopt Help Network.  Moreover, I have completed Level 1 training in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy with the founder of this attachment and adoption-focused modality, Daniel Hughes.

At Willow Bay Therapy, client care is the top priority and we work hard to ensure that clients have the best possible experience while working towards their therapeutic goals.  We strive to embody a down-to-earth, non-judgmental, authentic style that can help you feel at ease in the process. This practice is founded upon the core beliefs that you are the expert in your own life and that people are inherently self healing, when given the appropriate healing environment. No matter what your life circumstance, we work within a culturally informed framework. This means that your life experiences, background, ethnicity, race, spiritual beliefs, etc. are all important parts of defining who you are and the work we do together.

As we begin your therapeutic journey, we offer a free initial 30 minute phone consultation to ensure that you feel comfortable before you begin your sessions.
