Trauma Therapy
Numerous trauma therapies can target the traumatic memories in different ways, in order to help you be able to move past the trauma and resume normal life. (Note: There is another type of trauma that manifests from early childhood mistreatment and displacement. This is frequently known as developmental trauma and is treated with a different type of trauma therapy that focuses on enhancing attachments.)
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)
Accelerated Resolution Therapy is an evidence-based treatment for trauma and other psychological issues in both children and adults. ART utilizes back and forth rapid eye movements to achieve results, often between 1 and 5 sessions. While focusing on distressing images and problems sensations along with the concurrent eye movements, the person can create new neurological connections that draw on the person’s strengths and abilities. ART changes the distressing images and sensations, often ushering in a sense of relief and calm. This treatment is different from EMDR, yet both treatments utilize eye movements. Joanna has been trained in this model and can integrate this as part of individual psychotherapy, as needed.
Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
TF-CBT is an evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents impacted by trauma and their parents or caregivers. It is a components-based treatment model that incorporates trauma-sensitive interventions with cognitive behavioral, family, and humanistic principles and techniques. TF-CBT has proved successful with children and adolescents (ages 3 to 18) who have significant emotional problems (e.g., symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder, fear, anxiety, or depression) related to traumatic life events. It can be used with children and adolescents who have experienced a single trauma or multiple traumas in their lives. Bridget has been trained in this model and skillfully applies it when needed.
